When sisters Stacey Kroll and Stephanie Steffens moved to Florida to be closer to their parents, they decided it was the perfect opportunity to start their own business, as well. With passion and understanding for seniors’ desire to stay in their own homes, they decided to provide assistance to those who “just needed a little extra assistance in order to stay independent.” They don’t simply help seniors with their day-to-day tasks — they provide friendship, too.

My successes.

Sisters for Seniors now has 18 staff and counting who works with seniors in their homes, assist with transportation, grocery shopping and meal preparation, and offer light housekeeping and companionship.

In August 2017, Sisters for Seniors was named the Venice Area Chamber of Commerce Business of the Month.

How SCORE helped.

Since neither of the sisters had owned a formal business before, they know there was a lot they didn’t know about running a successful company. They attended several workshops sponsored by the Venice Area Chamber of Commerce, where they learned about SCORE’s mentoring program.

Sisters for Seniors worked with volunteer mentor Pat Loftus, who helped the team consider issues like legal entity status and different products and services to offer clients. “Pat has really helped us set goals both long and short term, which have given us direction and a way to see how far we have come,” Stephanie says. Along with meeting monthly, the team has attended several online workshops to refine their marketing skills.
